Attire for the modern workplace, attire for the unpredictable weather of winter nights. In these pieces I have sought to create a small portion of wardrobe of a woman dealing with the practical constraints of the contemporary city while trying to navigate the urban environment outside of the limitations of fossil fuel driven transportation. With cycling close at heart, these designs function both in and out of the saddle. The first look incorporates a double knit jersey shawl collar jacket with style lines that curve from the shoulder, down into large pockets, and into a large vent at center back, also giving extra room for movement in the arms and shoulders without adding bulk to the garment, and a skirt constructed in one continuous spiral, as well as a polo made from lingerie mesh so as to be breathable under various conditions with a voile-type yoke, collar, and trim. The second look is a lame dress that includes hidden pocket in the center back (as demonstrated in the last photo) capable of comfortably holding the contents of a clutch purse as well as a flocked yoke trimmed in lame that will insulate the upper torso while riding in the cold as well as conceal the zipper pull of the pocket when closed. Along with the dress, the second look includes a water resistant overcoat. The inner structure of the coat is built up along the shoulders and back to cushion the wearer when sporting a messenger bag laden with files from work or balancing her bike on her shoulder to carry it up several flights of stairs to a loft party. The coat is cinched at the waist with elastic, ending in large pockets sewn so as to prevent items from falling out and precipitation from getting in. It additionally has a pocket in the lining. The hem falls in a slight bubble so as to not get caught while riding as well as to create a pocket of air for insulation when worn on foot.
