Description
I have had the idea for my Paper Crane Wedding Dress surprisingly before the Decemberists song was released, many moons ago when I made a Korean friend of mine her real wedding dress. It was then I learned about the tradition of folding 1000 paper cranes for good fortune to be bestowed on the marriage. Not surprisingly, not many brides-to-be would like to swathed in Tyvek paper cranes like my model here, but she was enamored with her fluffy, articulated Tyvek gown! The entirety of the piece, including the bouquet and headpiece are made from Tyvek and even the thread was polyester so we have ourselves here a look entirely made from plastic! And what better symbol for the commitment of marriage than "forever" in plastic! And our Paper Crane's match is my Kamishimo GroomGirl, made primarily of ripstop nylon, with accents in my beloved Tyvek. The mini top hat is made from sheets of clear plastic I warped with heat so it looks a bit like glass!
In both looks I also tried to marry (ha!) the traditional phrase of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". So the "old" is my use of white as well as other traditional formal Western silhouettes/items(the shape of the gown, the veil, the bouquet, the top hat, the tails, the white gloves, the cummerbund, and the breeches), the "new" is our shining star here, PLASTIC, the "borrowed" is my use of Eastern features(paper cranes, origami, kabuki-esque make-up, obi, kimono top, hakama-style breeches, and the kataginu), and of course the "blue" is my the obi-style cummerbund!
I hope you enjoy these as much as I did creating them!

Very avant garde. Not very wearable, but I like the paper crane wedding dress idea. Nice job!
